Petroglyphs hunting in Al Amerat

This was a surprising hike. You drive up the mountain-highway road leading to Amerat, park next to the road. Start walking on dirt roads, leading to a small farm and probably used by the maintenance people of the electrical towers. The whole things looks very unassuming. And all of a sudden the wadi starts to be fun: bit of bouldering, fun and challenging but not crazy. Pretty dried trees and nice scenery. And finally the carrot of the trip - the big rock with petroglyphs! And if you carefully explore the area, you will be finding more!

From the parking you start following the dirt road, you will pass a farm on your left, here you need to turn right to the dirt road, here is were the you have to start walking into the wadi (keep left) and here is the big rock - there is a sign as well, what you can only see when you are there basically. If you walk further, around here you will see other smaller rocks with carvings. There is no cell reception, but you can download google maps for offline use and place the markers.

Distance: around 7km, it is an in and out hike
Time: we needed 3 hours for the whole trip and we did not have much break
Difficulty: medium
Car: salon car ok
Kids: not for toddlers

Some are newer - love the gun-man :)

And some seem to be ancient
