From Hammam to Amerat through the mountains
We have been doing only shorter, 2-3 hours hikes lately so it was absolutely time to do a longer one - and this one did not disappoint. The trail takes you through the mountain range behind Muscat, from Wadi Hammam to Al Amerat. It offers wonderful views and mainly follows an old service road used for building the electrical towers - Google shows it as a drivable road, but it is washed away, especially badly on the Amerat side.
You need two cars or need to arrange a pick up at one end. You can walk it either direction, I feel it is better to start in Hammam: the ascend is longer and less steep as it would be on the other side plus the views on the Amerat side are just breathtaking, would be a shame walking with your back towards it.
It will be a memorable hike for sure - we got soaked! First time in Oman and probably last as well. It was raining a lot but thankfully for not long.
Total distance: 14 km
Time: took us 5 hours in total including breaks
Location: It is partly marked, but the end, to get back to our car was not marked at all, we followed the coordinates I saved on google maps (we used google maps offline, there was reception on and off). Scroll for the map to the end for all location pins!
Car: salon car is ok at both end. If you have two 4WD you can drive into the wadi deeper on the Amerat side and make the hike a bit shorter.
Difficulty: medium hike, the only real difficulty is the distance, it is a longer hike
Kids: due to distance not for toddlers unless they are ok sitting in a carrier for longer time
We go up there!

The colors were unbelievable
