Wadi Bowah - a short wadi scrambling close to Fanja
We have been on the hunt for hikes close to Muscat - Alma is having more weekend programs and to maintain balance, these are a good option.
There wadi's specialty is the pyramid at the end which proved to be unclimbable for us :). Otherwise, it is an easy wadi, starts wide and flat. Boulders get slightly bigger the deeper you get, but nothing crazy. Until you reach the pyramid. We tried to scale it as the wadi continues - we even managed to climb up but the boulders looked bit big and scary so we turned around.
At the entrance there is a farm and the owner invited us for coffee and date - it is always a nice experience. He mentioned that in the '70s there was a plane accident, and the wreck is somewhere inside the wadi - it seemed there were fatalities in that accident, so not sure I would want to see it.
In short: if you are in Fanja and want to hike as well, this can be a good option!
Time: took us 45 min to reach the big boulder (rough location here). If you are braver or stronger than us, go for the boulder!
Car: salon car is ok.
Other: Toddler friendly
