A perfect day in Jabal Akhdar

This was the first time we tried a day trip in Jabal Akhdar and as it turned out it was absolutely doable, even with 2 kids (6 and 8 yo). We started early, around 7.30 am and we packed some lunch and snacks - on Fridays it is always tricky to find food and places open. And here is our itinerary:

1. Al Suwjarah village, the Cliff guest house

An unbelievable location and bit surreal how the houses cling on the side of the cliff. A 500 yo dwelling being beautifully restored by the family, turning the old houses into guest rooms. It takes a 20 min hike to get to the village and you even cross a suspension bridge - an absolute hit with the kids! One of the  cousins  showed us around and offered omani coffee and dates - it was lovely (village tour costs 5 OMR per family or 1 OMR per person)

2. The village walk across the terraced fields

We started at the overview point and walked to the last village - one of us drove the car there so we only needed to do the trek one direction to save time. February is spring time here and we saw many blossoming trees - not the same density as in Wakan, but enough to give you the feel without the crowds .

3. The abandoned village of Wadi Bani Habib

Fantastic old village (well, actually 2) with beautiful old mud brick houses, some still quite intact. We only walked to the first cluster and focused on the big 2 story house on the right with the beautiful painted majilis. The kids were looking for ghosts, which kept them busy :).

We finished our day with dinner at Robo’u Alsaab Restaurant - the best mixed grill in Oman and their cheese and honey pastry is to die for !

It was almost 9pm by the time we reached home - long day,  but worth it !
