Birkat Al Mouz
Birkat Al Mouz is a small town not far from Nizwa - the name roughly translates to banana pools due to the lush plantations all around. There is a fort and the remains of an old settlement which are worth to visit - we choose the old mud houses this time. There are three clusters of mud-brick ruins
1. Harat As Sibani, the neighborhood of the Sibani family. You can read more about it from Omantripper. For location type Harat As Sibani in google maps. There is a guest house and café with a nice rooftop terrace here as well.
3. There are some old houses scattered in the village where you can also hunt for beautiful doors. Roughly around 22.9233,57.6733.
We decided to explore Harat As Sibani. Unfortunately the houses are left to decay but as of now some of them are still intact - walking around them can give a good feeling how life could be 50+ years ago. There is a watch tower at the highest point and it is possible to walk up there - with a bit of try and error.
It does make an interesting stop on the way to Nizwa or to Jabal Akhdar. Besides the ruins you can walk around the farms or follow the falaj - best to start at Falaj Al Khatmain (type same in google maps) at the mosque and walk from there towards the farms.
You can get a bird eye view from the hilltop close by - type overlook spot in google maps for location (you have to walk up to the electrical tower, you cannot drive up all the the way to the top).
