Wadi Mistal - Wukan and Hadash

Tuesday evening at 10 there was an announcement saying that the emir of Kuwait died and therefore Oman declared 3 days mourning. Few minutes later the messages arrived from school and work saying that the rest of the week is off - all of a sudden, we had 4 days for us! Saturday was already booked for snorkeling, so we decided to drive to Wadi Mistal and camp there for one night and do some hiking.

Wadi Mistal is more like bowl, and we had a special treat: first day there was a big thunderstorm and heavy rain and all of a sudden, the otherwise super quite wadi got filled with life. Families came out with chairs and friends gathered and enjoyed the rain and the cool breeze. There were waterfalls popping out of the cliff walls everywhere! We followed suit and enjoyed the rain.

We picked our camping spot little bit higher up partly due to the rain (in lower parts there is a danger of flash floods) partly to enjoy the view. Next day we wanted to hike partially the path between Wukan and Hadash but Wukan was abruptly closed down due to COVID so we ended up driving to Hadash and hike there.

Camping location: 23.2764, 57.7544
Wakan: 23.1393, 57.7347
Hadas: 23.1270, 57.7556
Wadi Bani Harras: turning: 23.2452, 57.7031 ; village: 23.2006, 57.6795

At the beginning of the wadi there is a road carved deep in between cliffs leading to Wadi Bani Harras - it was quite surreal.

The picturesque village of Wukan is perched on the top of a hill and a short but steep road leads there. It is at 1500m and therefore temperatures are plesant and they grow fruits and vegetables - the terraces are stunning. Since the rain was coming we only had a short walk (we wanted to make it down before the road turned into mud) and next day the village was closed.

The short hike above Hadash was super steep but the ancient watch-tower and the view of the bowl was stunning.

Here comes the rain...

Our camping spot - Alma went all artistic and took some really nice pictures!
