Snake canyon and Wadi Bani Awf - the ultimate Omani adventure!

Snake Canyon (or Wadi Bimmah as locally known) is the ultimate adventure canyon for the amateurs - it is not easy for ordinary folks, requires some repelling etc but easy enough to do it without much experience with ropes etc. Best to do it with an experienced guide and ours, Majid from Omantripper was clearly one. He labeled the canyon "too easy" and after getting us through it he went on to save some stuck hikers in a "difficult" canyon (he saved them).

The canyon is in Wadi Bani Awf, which is a really picturesque wadi on its own - we drove there on Friday, camped there and we hiked through Snake Canyon on Saturday. Sunday none of us was too mobile and roughly every muscle hurt in our bodies, but it was worth it! The canyon is around 6km long and thanks god there were no snakes - the name comes from the shape, as at times the canyon narrows down and curves like crazy. It has water all year around and since most of the canyon is in the shadow all day, it is not particularly warm.

It was a great experience, one we will remember for sure :).

We asked Omantripper to help to organize the trip and we did not regret it .

Alshrf Mountain, one entrance to Wadi Bani Awf and a beautiful viewpoint.

Sharaf rock cliff, a fascinating rock formation just next to the road with a camping spot, shortly after entering the wadi.

We had been in this wadi in 2016 when we did the short walk through a small canyon to Balad Sayt - we stopped at the starting point also to admire the small mosque.

Our camping spot - as it turned out the whole wadi knew where we camped..

On the way to meet our guide we had a little traffic jam, wadi-style and some more crazy roads.
